Wow, a great opportunity from Kathryn Osgood!
COA Jewelry Workshop: Etching and Surface Design for Metal
Saturday & Sunday July 23 -24, 9 am to 4 pm at COA Roanoke Island Campus Professional Arts Building in Manteo.
In this workshop, students will learn a simple etching process that will result in the creation of etched brass plates that can be used in roll printing silver or in the fabrication of earrings, pendants, or bracelets. Transfer your drawings, rubber stamp designs or black and white patterns to brass or copper and etch them into the surface of your metal sheet. Add texture, pattern, and surface interest to your jewelry. All skill levels are welcome. Tuition for the two day class is $100. To register call 475-9250 or 475-9251. Students will pay a $10 fee for their supplies to the instructor.
Workshop instructor is Kathryn Osgood, Assistant Professor at College of The Albemarle and a studio jeweler, metalsmith and enamellist. Her work has been published in 1000 Rings, The Art of Enameling, 500 Earrings, 500 Necklaces, The Art of Jewelry: Wood, and Contemporary Enameling: Art and Techniques.

If you have wanted to create brass plates for surface design this sounds like a great way to get some good instruction and practice!
ReplyDeleteI decided to take this workshop with Kathyrn and I learned a lot after the first day I had five brass plates ready to roll.
ReplyDeleteSince I have church on Sunday I did not attend the second day; however, I will post some of my images made with my new brass plates, soon.
Thanks, Kathryn
