Because of Labor Day Weekend, The September Pocosin Arts Metals Guild meeting will be on the second Saturday of the month, September 11th, at the usual time - from 10:00am-4:00pm.
Plans for the September meeting:
So far, Hilary has volunteered to do a demo on handforming with a die (an alternative if you don’t have a hydrolic press). See the comment below for the recommended supplies to bring to practice the technique.
ALSO - Please post comments below, suggesting things you want to see happen at the meeting!
Hilary's demo - handforming with a die
ReplyDeleteplease bring:
- 1/4" thick piece of plexiglass to make a die
- saw frame & spiral saw blades (for cutting plexiglass)
- fairly thin gauge metal to form (metal no thicker than 22 gauge - tin works well!)
- chasing hammer
- dapping punches (wood works especially well)
Hilary will bring a little plexi in case you'd like to buy a few pieces from her.
Yahoo! Thanks, Hillary. I do not have a press and wanted to know how to handform with a die. Now, I just need to decide on what I want to make. See you on the 11th!
ReplyDeleteSounds great! Here is a chance to learn more, just must decide what to make. Also, I don't know what is a spiral saw blade? I'm amsuming it is different than the saw blade I've been using with my saw frame? Help
ReplyDeleteYou are right, Lin. The saw blade actually is formed as a spiral. They are created for wax cutting but work great on plexi. In the Rio catalog it is #110-065 for a #2 which is a light blade, #110-066 for a medium blade, #110-067 for a Heavy one. They are 4.00 for a package of 12.
ReplyDeletehilary -- i still have my skip-tooth blade from 2 fever relievers ago. will that do?
ReplyDeletei'm also ready to show off all my 'loot' from gem mining in the mountains. any and all advice/help appreciated.
The skip-tooth blade will probably work, just fine. I bet Bruce will be a great resource for the loot, but I will really enjoy seeing and holding it! We will have a great meeting!
ReplyDeleteSee the new slideshow of the September Meeting. I am the one behind the camera, you know, size 5 that looks like Lana Turner....
ReplyDeleteWhat a great meeting yesterday! A large gathering of twelve (think that was the final total - ?)
ReplyDeleteHilary did a wonderful demo on handforming with a die! Some of us gave it a try and like the results - think of all those possibilities!!
Ron was a great help with photographing our work - thank you so much! Marlene and Ron were a great photography team.
And Lana, I mean Dianne, thanks for taking photos of the day! Lin :)
Girl, I love the way you remember who I am. Glad the meeting was good for you, too.
