Pocosin Arts is scheduling weekend workshops for the rest of 2010 and 2011. What metals/jewelry workshops would you like to see happen?
Please respond with suggestions of techniques and concepts and recommended teachers.

I am not sure if someone can teach this or if it will just be discussion among members, but I would like to learn more about uses for the flex shaft and also polishing and clean up techniques. Don't do it next month, though as I will be in Ocracoke for Ocrafolk!
ReplyDeleteHere are my ideas, some may be more appropriate as demos for guild meetings, others for workshops. (I definitely get more done during workshops).
ReplyDelete1)Marlene True - image transfer to metal
2)Stone setting - talk about different ways to accomplish this, special care for various stones, possibly cutting gems/stones
3)Vessel forming - possibly with Tim Lazure
4)Advanced enamel - like cloisonne or experimenting with layering
5)Using resin in jewelry
6)Chains & chain mail jewelry
7)PMC
Is that enough? I'm interested in what other people are also interested. The flex-shaft discussion would be good for a guild meeting I think. At John C. Campbell I certainly used all sorts of attachments figuring out which were the best for cleaning up and polishing.
Oh, I forgot a very important plug that I think you are already working on -
ReplyDeleteA workshop with Kranitsky & Overstreet (the Richmond, VA artists who make brooches with small worlds). I'm already saving little bitty things.
I would LOVE to learn how to make tools. Like stamp making, and forming hammers.

ReplyDelete"metal casting! more specific....ring casting.......anything metal casting....did I mention metal casting???"
I would like to learn how to bezel set irregular elements.
